Can you identify teachers just before school starts?
#1 – How Do You Identify a Teacher in August?
You may have stood behind a teacher in the checkout line. Items in the cart include: 100 notebooks, several boxes of pencils, packets of Post-It Notes, bags of pencil erasers, and a commercial-sized pencil sharpener. The cashier states the cost of all the items. Rest assured, much of the price is likely covered from the teacher’s account. How can you support a teacher?

#2 – Common Teacher Needs
- 1. Quality # 2 pencils
- 2. Post-it notes
- 3. Markers: dry-erase, permanent, and markers for paper
- 4. Paper-clips in multi-colors and sizes
- 5. Tape: scotch tape and boxing tape
- 6. Erasers
- 7. Tissues / Kleenex
- 8. Heavy-duty hole punch
- 9. Electric Pencil Sharpener
- 10. A home-office printer/copy machine
On the other hand, should you choose to support a teacher by supplying materials, it is always best to first ask what is needed. Teachers may vary in their needs.
#3 – Volunteer
In addition, teacher time is precious! Community volunteers may assist. Do you enjoy preparing materials? Volunteer to cut out teaching materials, sort math manipulatives into plastic bags, label drawers, or binders. Other tasks may include sharpening pencils, reorganizing storage containers, and straightening books.

#4 – Kindness
Last, but not least, teachers all appreciate small acts of kindness. Some examples are listed below:
- 1. Genuine “Thank-yous”
- 2. Kind words to others about their dedication and hard work
- 3. Words of encouragement

Conclusion
In conclusion, when you support teachers, you are helping students.
